HBT: Braun's return a big boost to Brewers
In doing the Brewers? edition of running down the rosters earlier this month, I presented two lineups: one with Ryan Braun and one without him for the 50 games he appeared likely to miss pending the appeal of his PED suspension.

Without Braun, the Brewers looked like the NL Central?s third-best team in paper. Sure, the Cardinals lost an even better player than Fielder in Albert Pujols, but they also gained Adam Wainwright and Carlos Beltran. The Reds finished 17 games behind the Brewers last season, but they have the better offense and a pitching staff that should be much improved with Mat Latos in the rotation and Sean Marshall and Ryan Madson finishing games.
Now the NL Central race looks pretty even again. Advanced statistics will say that losing Braun for 50 games shouldn?t have meant more than two or maybe three extra losses in the first two months. However, sometimes there?s just no digging out of that early hole, and with the Brewers already over-budget, there probably aren?t going to be any big summer acquisitions if the team finds itself hovering around .500.

British PM Cameron wants soccer anti-racism plan

LONDON - British Prime Minister David Cameron asked England's soccer leaders Wednesday to provide a plan against racism in the sport after a series of high-profile cases involving the Premier League.
Cameron addressed soccer officials, former players and anti-racism campaigners at a summit on Downing Street, warning that abusive behavior by soccer stars is imitated by youngsters and must be stopped.
"We have some problems still today," Cameron said. "We need to act quickly to make sure those problems do not creep back in ... if everyone plays their role, then we can easily crush and deal with this problem."
The English Football Association must provide a full report detailing how racism and other forms of discrimination can be combatted.
"We have committed to coming back with a detailed follow-up to this in two months," FA chairman David Bernstein said.
The government announced Wednesday it will give $4.7 million toward the English Football Association's new coaching center in a bid to encourage more people from ethnic minorities to become managers. There are no black managers in the Premier League.
In July, John Terry will become the first high-profile soccer player to stand trial for racial abuse following a confrontation with Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand in October. The Chelsea player was stripped of the England captaincy this month in a move opposed by coach Fabio Capello, who quit in protest.
Sport Secretary Jeremy Hunt said after Wednesday's summit that soccer needs to address "how we draw the line between banter and offensive language."
Liverpool, the 18-time English champion, was criticized for its support of striker Luis Suarez when he was banned for eight matches after racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in October.
Liverpool, owned by the parent company of the Boston Red Sox, was condemned by anti-racism groups for backing Suarez and allowing players and manager Kenny Dalglish to wear T-shirts featuring Suarez's picture in a show of solidarity before a match weeks later.
This month, Suarez was criticized for refusing to shake hands with Evra in their first match since the confrontation. He apologized later under pressure.
"What happens on the field influences what happens off the field. You see children as young as 6 imitating the behavior they see on the field," Cameron said. "So this is not just important for football ? it's important for the whole country ... we want to make sure football is all about a power to do good, rather than anything else."
Amal Fashanu attended the summit, which also dealt with the lingering problem of homophobia in soccer. She recently made a documentary for British TV about homosexuality in soccer, 14 years after her uncle Justin committed suicide.
The career of Fashanu, the first black player to move in a 1 million-pound transfer when he joined Nottingham Forest in 1981, faded after he publicly acknowledged his homosexuality. He was found hanged in a London garage in 1998 at 37.
"Potentially, gay people don't want to be become Premier League footballers because they are intimidated by the atmosphere ... or they don't think the environment makes it possible for them to come out," Hunt said.
On Wednesday, West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison was fined $11,000 by the FA for using a gay slur on Twitter.
Cameron described homophobia in soccer as a largely taboo topic.
"It's obviously quite unlikely that there are no gay Premiership players, and that tells you something about the tolerance within the game," said Steve Field, Cameron's spokesman.

As a result, what can happen is that once the enthusiasm is gone or the obligation acquired was not as simple as it seemed, the animal is abandoned to its own ends, in an environment totally hostile to its nature. This situation is aggravated if the animal is taken from his country of origin and left on another that does not meet the conditions of their natural habitat. The animal becomes, then, an invasive species that in order to survive may displace some native species, putting it in danger of extinction.
There are many considerations that must be addressed when choosing an exotic animal as a pet. You must be sure that you want to have it, that you assume the responsibility that this represents, that you know very well the needs of the animal and you are willing to provide everything it needs for its wellbeing. Be sure that in the future you will not abandon the animal, causing more stress than that he suffered when you purchased as a pet. And if you have to, find the animal a suitable home. Know, for example, parrots are social animals and view their owners as their family, so that the separation will be harmful to the anima.

Clarksville Office of Parks & Recreation issues its weekly report for February 17 with notice of main office closing and activities scheduled.
President?s Day: In honor of President?s Day, the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department main office will be closed Monday, February 20. Augmented play helps children with autism
ScienceDaily (Feb. 16, 2012) ? Making play sets more interactive and giving children with autism greater opportunities to control and add content of their own to the game could improve cooperative play with other children as well as giving them greater confidence in understanding how objects interact.
William Farr and Nicola Yuill of the University of Sussex, UK and Steve Hinske of ETH Zurich, Switzerland, explain that children with autism are often affected not only by social difficulties, but also have an impaired understanding of the way objects interact. They have investigated how toys, such as the "Augmented Knight's Castle" (AKC) might be adapted to be more beneficial to those children and perhaps even act as a therapeutic tool.
Writing in the International Journal of Arts and Technology, the team,from the Children and Technology Lab at the University of Sussex explains how they have examined childhood playexplains how they have examined childhood play with the popular Playmobil Knight's Castle play set, which as the name would suggest comprises a toy castle with various obvious components of towers, parapets, a moat and the various model people that can be used in imaginative play to enact various roles within the play set.
The team has thus augmented the play set by adding a wireless networking system and radio frequency identification tags (RFIDs) to the components to add feedback and programmable aspects to the play set. The play set might thus produce sound or movement given certain actions by the child playing with the toys. Their tests with autistic children volunteered to play with the AKC reveal promising results that are allowing the team to conclude that such adapted play sets can improve understanding and interest in the play set itself, but more importantly boost the level of interaction with other children playing with the toys. Indeed, the team noticed more parallel and cooperative play and less solitary play with the fully configurable setup for the AKC. They add that autistic children playing with the configurable AKC were also more inclined to actively play with the Playmobil figures.
Children with autism commonly struggle to understand the world around them, which means control over their own environment presents them with daily challenges, the team says. By offering a configurable play set that incorporates feedback systems that respond to how the children are playing, they hope to open up new avenues to children with autism through an increased sense of control. The AKC could reduce isolation for children with autism by giving them an increased understanding of how to control and engage with objects and by extension other children.
"There is potential for systems like the AKC to be used in a therapeutic way," the team says. They add that the play set could also be used diagnostically by allowing evidence to be compiled to provide a baseline against which a child's position on the autistic spectrum could be aligned and help improve a borderline diagnosis so that a child's ambiguous impairments might be better addressed.

NEW YORK (AP) ? New York Times correspondent Anthony Shadid, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner whose dispatches captured untold stories from Baghdad under "shock and awe" bombing to Libya wracked by civil war, died Thursday of an apparent asthma attack in Syria while reporting on the uprising against its president.
Shadid, 43, who survived a gunshot wound in the West Bank in 2002 and was captured for six days in Libya last year, was returning with smugglers from Syria to Turkey when he collapsed, the Times said.
Times photographer Tyler Hicks told the newspaper that Shadid had suffered one bout of asthma the first night, followed by a more severe attack a week later on the way out of the country.
"I stood next to him and asked if he was OK, and then he collapsed," Hicks told the Times.
Hicks said that Shadid was unconscious and that his breathing was "very faint" and "very shallow." He said that after a few minutes he could see that Shadid "was no longer breathing."
Hicks carried Shadid's body to Turkey after this latest attack, the newspaper said.
"Anthony was one of our generation's finest reporters," Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger said in a statement. "He was also an exceptionally kind and generous human being. He brought to his readers an up-close look at the globe's many war-torn regions, often at great personal risk. We were fortunate to have Anthony as a colleague, and we mourn his death."
Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati wrote on his Twitter account: "Sincere condolences to journalist Anthony Shadid's (RIP) family, friends & New York Times colleagues. I've known and admired him personally. N.M."
Shadid's father, Buddy Shadid, told The Associated Press on Thursday his son had asthma all his life and had medication with him.

Shadid, an American of Lebanese descent, had a wife, Nada Bakri, and a son and a daughter. He had worked previously for the AP, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe. He won Pulitzer Prizes for international reporting in 2004 and 2010 when he was with the Post.
In 2004, the Pulitzer Board praised "his extraordinary ability to capture, at personal peril, the voices and emotions of Iraqis as their country was invaded, their leader toppled and their way of life upended."
Shadid also was the author of three books, including "House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family, and a Lost Middle East," in which he wrote about restoring his family's home in Lebanon, forthcoming next month from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
A native of Oklahoma City, Shadid graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the AP in Milwaukee in 1990, worked on the International Desk in New York and served as the AP's news editor in Los Angeles. He was transferred to Cairo in 1995, covering stories in several countries.
AP Senior Managing Editor John Daniszewski, who worked with Shadid in Baghdad during the U.S. invasion in 2003, called him "a brilliant colleague who stood out both for his elegant writing and for his deep and nuanced understanding of the region."
"He was calm under fire and quietly daring, the most admired of his generation of foreign correspondents," Daniszewski said.
Martin Baron, the editor of the Globe, for whom Shadid worked while at that newspaper, told the Times that Shadid had a "profound and sophisticated understanding" of the Middle East.
"More than anything, his effort to connect foreign coverage with real people on the ground, and to understand their lives, is what made his work so special," Baron said. "It wasn't a matter of diplomacy: it was a matter of people, and how their lives were so dramatically affected by world events."
Ralph Nader, the former third-party presidential candidate, called Shadid "a great, great reporter."
"His courage, stamina, intellect and extraordinary powers of observation respected his readers' intelligence while elevating his profession's standards," the longtime consumer advocate said in a statement.
Nader added in a phone call to the AP that he knew Shadid from his time at The Washington Post and had met his family.
"What a loss," he said.
A hearse brought Shadid's body Friday to a forensic science institute in Adana, in southern Turkey, where an autopsy was to be performed, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported. Hicks and a plain-clothed Turkish military official accompanied the hearse, it said.
Hicks refused to answer reporters' questions about his journey back to Turkey and he followed the coffin into the building, it said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu posted comments about Shadid's death on his Twitter account in English.
"Not only as a good journalist but a true friend as well, Anthony Shadid's death put me in sorrow. Knowing that at the very final moments ... of his life, he was looking for truth," Davutoglu wrote.
Shadid had been reporting in Syria for a week, gathering information on the resistance to the Syrian government and calls for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down, the Times said. The exact circumstances and location of his death were unclear, it said.
Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson sent a note to the newsroom Thursday evening, relaying the news of Shadid's death and remembering him.
"Anthony died as he lived ? determined to bear witness to the transformation sweeping the Middle East and to testify to the suffering of people caught between government oppression and opposition forces," she wrote.
Shadid, long known for covering wars and other conflicts in the Middle East, was among four reporters detained for six days by Libyan forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi last March.
Speaking to an audience in Oklahoma City about a month after his release, he said he had a conversation with his father the night before he was detained.
"Maybe a little bit arrogantly, perhaps with a little bit of conceit, I said, 'It's OK, Dad. I know what I'm doing. I've been in this situation before,'" Shadid told the crowd of several dozen people. "I guess on some level I felt that if I wasn't there to tell the story, the story wouldn't be told."
When Shadid's wife was asked at the time whether she worried about him returning to writing about conflicts, she said as a journalist she understood that he might need to.
"At the end of the day, he's my husband, and the thought of going through life without him and raising our children alone is terrible," she said afterward.
Shadid's father, who lives in Oklahoma City, said a colleague tried to revive his son after he was stricken Thursday but couldn't.
"They were in an isolated place. There was no doctor around," Buddy Shadid said. "It took a couple of hours to get him to a hospital in Turkey."

If you?re the type of person who loves to run, or even just looking to get started, you have a choice to make every time you pull on your shoes: will I run outside, or will I jump on the treadmill? Purists may argue that real running is done outside, pounding pavement, but is that always the best way? When is it time to take the rubber off the road and get yourself to a gym?
Before you start getting all hot and bothered by the idea of having to pay to go for a jog, let me just say that I?m a huge fan of running outdoors. I started on the path to fitness by running around the block, slowly extending the distance until I was running 8k out and back along the beach. Since then I?ve run on roads, trails, up hills and down hills, I?ve even run (briefly) on snow. Running outdoors is good for you, but that doesn?t make treadmills useless. There are very good reasons to fill a gym up with them. Here?s 5:
1) Lighter Load
Running on a treadmill is easier. Period. Not having to actually propel yourself forward means less load is placed on the muscles in your legs, hips, and feet at every stride than running outdoors. This is a good thing. It means you can use treadmills as a deload day if you?re a serious runner. Novice runners can jump on a treadmill and avoid getting shin splints, tearing their achilies tendon, or any other of the amazing range of horrible injuries that plague first-time runners. It?s a win/win for everyone.
2) Constant Speed
Want to become a faster runner? Run at a faster pace. It sounds easy, but try doing this outdoors and you?ll quickly realise that accurate pacing can be a nightmare. On a treadmill though? Just set your speed and you?re off. Let?s say you?re trying to increase your running speed to 5min/k. That?s 12k/hour. Outside you?re glancing at your watch every 30seconds trying to make sure you?re keeping pace, and trying to remember exactly which tree was your 1k marker. On a treadmill, it?s all right there on the screen, and the track is spinning at exactly 12k/hour. Perfect training right there.
3) Incline
Not only is this a fantastic way to burn an extra dozen calories per minute, but setting your treadmill to a natural incline of 2-3% will actually make you a better runner. Not because it?s ?more like running outdoors? as you may have heard on runners boards, but because it forces you to use proper running technique.
Most people, especially those without training, land on their heels as they run. This basically sends shocks all the way through your legs, hips, back and shoulders, and can cause some pretty serious injuries over time. Correct running posture is to lean forward from the heels, standing tall, and land with a mid-foot or front-foot strike.
Having an incline of 2-3% puts you into this position naturally, with the slight raise making the front of your foot land before the heel.
4) Running for Time, not Distance (and knowing both)
On a treadmill, like outdoors, you can choose whether to run by time or by distance, but in my experience people tend to opt for the time option far more often on a treadmill than the door when they run outdoors. It just seems to make more sense; afterall you?re not really going anywhere on a treadmill. So you run for 20mins and record your distance after the fact, rather than run for 2k and record your time.
This is a key part of training, and for improving, for 2 reasons. 1, it conditions your mental state to run for a set time, without stopping or slowing down. You have to find the flow. There?s no ?I?ll just run to this landmark, and then that tree?? tricks you can pull, it?s just you and the clock. It can be daunting, but it?s definitely a good way to train.
2, speed becomes more of a factor. If you bust out a 5k run in 30mins (6min / k pace) or 28mins (5min 36seconds / k pace) you?re probably not going to feel like you?ve really improved by that much (even though you have). Reverse that though, and say you run 5k in 30mins, and then run 5.36k in 30mins, and you will notice the improvement.
Short periods of time (like a minute) become increasingly hard to notice the longer we perform a task (like running for 30 minutes). Distance on the other hand pretty much always stands out. While this holds true for running outdoors as well, on a treadmill we can see all the numbers laid out in front of us. We know how much longer we have to run, and how far we can go in that time. It?s not a wait and find out the result later thing, it?s push now and beat your record.
5) What Weather?
Yes it?s a cop-out, but it totally counts. Sometimes it?s too hot, cold, dark, raining, whatever, to actually go outside. We can?t let the weather screw with our progress though, and that means training indoors in air-conditioned, artificially lit, comfortable gyms.

Hi everyone,I am looking for 3 part time writers for a very long term project. You will be required to write UAW articles and on some days original articles. Please note this is a PART TIME job and you can choose the days of the week that you wish to work.
Payments are sent every friday.
Here are my rates of pay:
UAW300 words= $3.25 for 1 original and 2 rewrites
UAW400 words= $4.25
UAW500 words= $5.25
400 words= $1.5
500 words= $2
750 words= $2.5
1000 words= $4
