WATCH: Jessica Simpson Shares Personal Baby Shower Video

If Jessica Simpson celebrates everything the same way she did her baby shower, her daughter is going to be one lucky little gal when she's (finally) born. The star-studded shower took place on March 18, and Simpson, 31, just posted a lovely video of the party to her website. The mom-to-be was radiant as she mingled with friends, snapped photos and opened gifts. Watch the video below!

Leaked T-Mobile roadmap outlines Ice Cream Sandwich updates, new myTouch devices

Leaked T-Mobile roadmap outlines Ice Cream Sandwich updates, new myTouch devices

Looks like our friends over at TMoNews have unearthed a roadmap with some tasty morsels of info about what's coming down the pipe from T-Mobile USA in the next few months. Of course, none of this is set in stone or even confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

Most interesting is a pair of dates for Ice Cream sandwich updates, with Magenta's Galaxy S II slated to receive Android 4.0 on May 14th, followed by the Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G getting ICS (with Sense 3.6, presumably) on June 16th.

A bunch of device launches from Samsung and Huawei round up the list of dates, with no sign of HTC's One X, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S III, or T-Mobile's rumored Galaxy Note variant. Sadness. Check out the entire bounty below.

  • May 9th: Huawei Astor (low-end phone for 7-Eleven)
  • July 11th: Huawei Buddy and Phoenix (myTouch QWERTY and slate, respectively)
  • July 11th: Samsung Gravity TXT (new color)
  • Aug 1st: Samsung T159 Cacao (low-end handset)
  • Aug 15th: Samsung Apex Q (mystery device)

AT&T HTC One X now available for pre-order

One X

Right on time, AT&T is now offering its version of the HTC One X for pre-order, with the first shipments expected to reach customers on May 6. If you're in the mood for an upgrade, the device will set you back $199.99 on a two-year service plan.

In addition to LTE connectivity, the AT&T version of the phone rocks a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip in place of the NVIDIA Tegra 3 in the international HSPA model. We're still expecting the AT&T One X to be blisteringly fast, though, despite "only" featuring a dual-core CPU. In addition to a gorgeous 720p SuperLCD 2 screen and 8MP ImageSense camera, the One X delivers the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, along with HTC Sense 4. For more info on the phone, be sure to check out our full review.

And if you're interested in picking one up, hit the source link to order in white or grey.

Clever Photography Makes These Tiny Lego Rooms Look Like Full-Size Spaces [Lego]

A technique known as tilt-shift photography can turn everyday scenes into miniature wonderlands. But at this point the trick is as tired as vintage filters, so photographer Valentino Fiadini did just the opposite with these miniature Lego rooms—photographing them to look like life-size locations. 'Top Model' shake-up sends cast members packing

Michael Desmond / The CW

Cycle 18 of "America's Next Top Model" will be the last for regulars J. Alexander, Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel.

By Ree Hines

The beginning of each cycle of "America's Next Top Model" kicks off with a series of tough makeovers. Often the runway hopefuls weep as long locks are cut short and styles are radically changed. But that's nothing compared to the really tough makeover the entire show is undergoing for next season, as three of its most familiar faces -- J. Alexander, Nigel Barker and Jay Manuel -- won't be part of it any more.

According to a report in the New York Post, the powers-that-be behind the show decided not to renew the contracts of the longtime talent and told the trio Thursday morning.

A source told the Post the "production decision" was made because there are "major changes planned for (season) 19."

After the news broke, "Top Model" host Tyra Banks reached out to her soon-to-be-former reality TV co-stars on Twitter.

"Fierce & love 2 my @NigelBarker, @MrJayManuel & Miss J," she wrote. "#ANTM turned us in2 a family. Excited for what the future holds for us. XOXO TyTy"

In a post to his blog on Friday morning, Manuel assured fans "Nigel, Miss J and I had a great run, and now it?s time for us to move on."?

Meanwhile Barker told his followers, "I'll still be there on 18 cycles of reruns and just wait for the next incarnation."

Alexander, better known to fans as Miss J, has remained quiet about the cut so far.

Despite the departures, executive producer Ken Mok issued a statement revealing that "Top Model" fans will still have a chance to see the ousted cast again.

"(They) have been an integral part of the ?America?s Next Top Model? brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today," Mok said. "They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the ?Top Model? family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.?

Say Anything ? With $5 Billion In Reserves, Why Can't North Dakota ...

April 20th, 2012 - 9:42am

The Beacon Hill Institute, a well-respected think tank that has performed studies for the North Dakota State Government in the past (but has been drug through the mud of late by opponents of Measure 2), has produced a economic impact report for Measure 2 which would eliminate property taxes in the state.

What?s interesting is that the legislative committee with oversight on tax issues, as well as the state Tax Department, has specifically declined to do this sort of a study calculating the impact on the economy from eliminating the property tax. Per this Beacon Hill report, not only can the state afford property taxes, but the long-term impact on the state (going well beyond the scope of the oil boom) is profound.

You can read the full report below, and I encourage you to do so as it?s very readable and quite robust with facts, but this is from the summary:

The state projects budget surpluses well into the future and had over $5 billion in total fund
balances at the end of FY 2011. The ongoing surpluses indicate the tax rates are higher than necessary to fund government needs. ?

North Dakota can become an attractive location for businesses to site new capital projects. This would result in broadening of the state?s economic base thus making it significantly less prone to hardships during downturns in economic cycles.

The positive benefits to the private sector of the state?s economy brought about by eliminating property taxes are without question. Governments in North Dakota are well-funded; it may be time to give some of that money back to North Dakota?s taxpayers.

I think that last statement goes to the crux of the argument the coalition of big government interests opposing Measure 2 are making. They won?t admit it, but at the end of the day every one of the groups involved benefit from bigger government in some way, and they?re afraid that if we just start giving money back to the taxpayers, they?ll have diminished access to the all-you-can-eat buffet that the state budget has become.

Update: I got a call from Governor Jack Dalrymple?s spokesman Jeff Zent objecting to my characterization of the $5 billion in reserves as being available for property tax relief. He notes that many of these funds are assets, and that other funds are restricted by existing policy restricting or preventing their expenditure.

These are fair points, but a bit of a distraction, especially because the focus of the report above was about the economic impact of the measure. The legislature makes policy in the state, and can certainly unwind any policy restricting the expenditure of funds the state needs. Also, the larger point is that the state has huge amount of money in funds and assets already, with continuing big surpluses projected, so this argument that the state can?t afford the elimination of the property tax becomes a harder one to make.

Sony patent proposal ponders planting physicians inside your plasma

Image

Remember when Sony said it would "unify" its product lines and consider going into the medical device business? Well, we've unearthed this patent application from 2010 that does that just. A wireless wristband monitors your heart rate, vitals and blood glucose levels, and beams that information to your TV over infra-red. Your data will then update in real time for you to watch of an evening, if it's a choice between that and Gossip Girl, at least. Moreover, if your TV is web-connected, it could even send emergency messages to your local HMO if the conclusion of your favorite show / sporting event sends you into chest-clutching fits of apoplexy.
